While I agree with the concept that "wild"animals shouldn't be used in performances I think that animal activists are celebrating too soon. RBB&B is, or was, the biggest circus and frankly its animals probably were well maintained. However there are lots of smaller circuses out there in the world where animal care probably does not come up to the level provided by RBB&B. These circuses will continue performances and given the tradition of the circus it's doubtful that they will all close down even though activist pressures will now be directed at them. So yes animal activists were successful in shutting down the big guy but I'm not sure this was in the best interests of the animals in all the smaller circuses.
