One thing for us to consider is that again we are having the peaceful transition of power. Not from one like minded person to another, but between two people who view the world very differently. No attempts on the part of the outgoing guy to come up with some flimsy justification to stay in power or declare martial law, just him transferring power to the next person.
Sure the supporters of the candidates that lost are butt sore, but at the end of the day there was no coup, no taking control of local government or national guard units going rogue. Regardless of how you feel about the outgoing guy or the incoming guy, this should be cause for celebration.

I'm glad there's a new guy coming in and am crazy happy that it's not Hillary but WHY in a Republic do we spend so much freaking time, money. "Congress has appropriated $1.25 million for the events." and resources a what is effectively a coronation? (Before you say well 1.25 million is just a drop in the bucket, please remember how much $1.25 million is.)
I don't mind the $100 million raised by PEOTUS Trump’s inaugural committee as those were private donations that's their money.

This event was a helluva lot bigger than that. I am one that does not like pomp & circumstance, but there is a time and place for it... and this was it. This inauguration was not over the top extravagant or expensive.
If you want a reference point, think back to the conference halls rented by Trump and Hillary on the eve of the election. Hillary's was elaborate and extravagant and expensive, while Trump's was more modest and functional.

SSgt Christopher Brose - I'm not really of the mindset that because they did it, we should too. Wasteful expense transcends politics is needlessly wasteful regardless of what party, D, R, I, L et al., does it.

Seems like there is violence this afternoon on the streets of D.C. Concussion grenades being launched at leftists along with tear gas. Protestors only in the hundreds so probably anarchists. One can't help but think the Democratic Party encouraged this with their boycott of the Inaguration and should be held at least partially responsible. Very sad.

SPC Erich Guenther The fact that we can complain about some overzealous protesters who aren't no where near the same area of an attempted coup instead of a real coup or near coup says a lot about the strength of our democracy.
