Wow. The Metro numbers don't lie about how many people rode the train on Inauguration day..

Over a million riders the day of Obama's Inauguration. A little less than 600k for Trump's.

By 11am even the Woman's March surpassed Trump's Inauguration numbers.

The sad thing is this is NOT WH Press Secretary Conference worthy or even news worthy. This is a display of Trump's very thin skin which has been clearly illustrated over the last 18 months via Twitter.

"There are Lies.
There are damn'd lies.
And then there are statistics."
Mark Twain

Spicer vs the Facts:

1:14: "This was the first time in our Nation's history that floor coverings have been used to protect the grass on the Mall..."

(They were used for the first time in 2013 for Pres. Oama's 2nd Inauguration.

1:27 "This was also the first time that fencing and magnetometers went as far back on the (M)all, preventing hundreds of thousands of people from being able to access the Mall as quickly as they had in Inaugurations past."

("The Secret Service, the agency responsible for securing the event, acknowledged that the secure area for this year's inauguration was larger than in years past, but the extra measures included only fences and bag checks and not magnetometers."

1:40 "Inaccurate numbers involving crowd size were also tweeted. No one had numbers because the National Park Service...does not put any out."

(But there are pictures. There are pictures from the National Park Service's EarthCam atop the Washington Monument taken at noon Fri, as the Inauguration is beginning and at noon Sat as the Women's March is beginning. The difference is obvious.

2:20, "We know that 420,000 people used the DC Transit Metro yesterday... compared with 317,000 that used it for Pres. Obama's last Inaugural."

("Metro said 570,557 people took trips in the system between its early 4 a .m. Friday opening through midnight closing."

"The figures are significantly lower than those from the 2009 and 2013 Inaugurations of President Barack Obama; 1.1 million trips in 2009 and 782,000 in 2013, according to Metro."

2:31 "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period!"

("Trump's inauguration...garnered 30.6 million viewers across the 12 networks that aired the ceremonies between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m."

"Using the same measurements, Barack Obama's 2009 inauguration drew 37.7 million viewers, which was the second biggest audience to Ronald Reagan's in 1981. The first Richard Nixon inauguration and Jimmy Carter's inauguration also garnered more viewers than Trump's. In terms of the percentage of households tuning in, Trump was even further behind, beating only George H. W. Bush when considering the first inaugurations of presidents since Nixon."

In the book "Life, the Universe, and Everything", the hero, Arthur Dent, sees a flashing neon sign down a long, dark tunnel. It says, in comforting, colorful letters, "Don't be afraid...Be very, very frightened."

I don't know which to be more concerned about: that the White House Press Secretary makes so many false statements that are so easily disproved, or that so many people, who shouldn't be so easily fooled, believe him.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”
This warning applies to our own leaders as much as it does to others.
