Not to derail this, but I am for voter ID, but if a state implements it, they should have a way to allow any registered voter who needs an ID to get one at no cost or no more that what a drivers license would cost.

Texas says if you show up at the polls without a photo ID all you need is a believeable verbal explanation to the poll workers revert back to the previous forms of documentation. Most of the poll workers are retired and are not going to give you grief.

Michigan issues what is commonly called a walker's ID. It costs $10, less than a driver's license. It is free to anyone 65 years plus. The fee is automatically waived if the person qualifies for any form of government subsistence. My guess is that every other state has a similar offering.

SPC Erich Guenther - Where in TX is that? Know plenty of TX residents that will dispute that comment.

It would be illegal to charge ANY amount for ANY part of a voter registration process. Thats a major No Go.

SP5 Christine Conley - It appears so. I feel he is more interested in stuff like that than serious matters. Plus, it gets people like you and me upset, but behind the scenes he is screwing the country.

In my professional, I frequently encounter people with a drivers license from Canada or a Northern State and an ID card from my State. Until the law changed recently, they were claiming resident status in both places to take advantage of reduced fees. They usually spend 6 or more months at their primary residence and the remainder of the year in the South where it is warmer. This is one of the reasons why you have people voting in 2 or more jurisdictions. It wouldn't be an issue if the votes pertained only to local issues, but it doesn't. There is no national voter database that automatically confirms someone is only voting once and in a single State.

Career military can be accused of the same with the amount of time we spend moving. Registered in your state listed as your home of record but may also be registered in a different state that you also own a home. Many veterans own more than one home in more than one state to supplement income by renting instead of selling it. Some Americans own homes overseas if they travel a lot while maintaining their US status (drivers license, voter, etc) but does that mean they vote in both countries which is fraud. Do agree that a national voter database (especially with today's technology) is needed to fix these issues.
