I was honored to be one of MSG Benavidez's escorts while he was in Panama for the 1987 or 1988 4th of July activities.
Another one that I have been privileged to meet (twice) 1SG Leonard Funk, Jr., 508th PIR, earned the MOH and the DSC.
One that I have been privileged to work for and continue to be friends with is BG James E Mace, who earned the DSC while serving with the 5th Cavalry in Vietnam.

The closest I've ever gotten to any of these amazing men was at Fort Sam Houston. MSG Benavidez was there, and I happened to be at the Army HQ for some business. I would have loved to have spoken with him, but I decided to not be a groupie.

Thanks MSgt George Cater nice share. I met Col Millett at the MOH Convention in Boston about ten years ago. sad that we lose them all too soon.

That is so true. I look at these men and I'm completely blown away by what they did. They leave us all too soon.
