It looks like this individual may still be hanging on and in a state of flux. Things are never cut and dried it seems. Although many would like to see him go because of his political antics it may come down to money and performance. http://ninernoise.com/2017/01/14/colin-kaepernick-49ers-2017/

Couldn't happen to a "nicer" guy! I fully expected him to be released by the 49ers. I also think that it's going to be hard for him to find a new team.
From a physical perspective, he simply has not played all that well and he's injury prone. From a personal perspective, with all his political shenanigans, who wants someone that might be an immediate threat in the locker room (dissension/loss of team morale) and could hurt the team in the pocketbook because of fan displeasure? What team would want such a liability?
Capt Tom Brown's link to an article actually suggests that Colin Kaepernick might remain with the 49ers. That's altogether possible, because no other team may take him.
He dug himself into a hole from which I don't think he'll be able to climb out.

The truth is he isn't earning the $114 million dollar deal he got! His stats are dismal!
