Does anyone represent you in Congress?
I know that most people don't understand this (certainly not most politicians) but America is not a democracy. If it were, you'd represent yourself. We all would. However, what we really are is a representative republic and we elect people to be our eyes, ears, and voice in the People's House. Well, that's the theory.
Unfortunately, I live in California and am painfully aware that no one represents me. I am regularly reminded of this sad fact when I receive an appeal to contact my representatives in Congress to voice my support for one issue or another. I was reminded again this morning when CVA (Concerned Veterans of America) asked me to support Gorsuch for the Supreme Court. Does anyone seriously think that a California Senator is going to support Gorsuch just because I call or write in support? If they do, you better duck for cover because pigs will be flying and you might get a nasty surprise from above. So here's the link in case you want to support him. I would love to but can't

I think most people that are elected to office intend to do good things......but when they get to D.C. they are quickly run over by the machine. Most decide to play along in order to survive, and their good intentions fall by the wayside.

Absolutely. My professor of Torts in Law School, Spiro Agnew was an excellent example of just that.

The congress members elected from my state and district are my representatives under the constitution as you state in the original post. Whether they always act as I would have them is a characteristic of our constitutional republic as a form of government. When they don't then it is up to me to convince enough of my fellow citizens to vote for someone we think will act as we want them to and thereby replace those who represent us but don't speak with our voice. That is also is a characteristic of our constitutional republic.

You are correct. And Term Limits would greatly help you in that effort. Sadly, California has an abundance of nutters, sufficient to send another to Congress even if we limited each to one term of one day
