I think most people that are elected to office intend to do good things......but when they get to D.C. they are quickly run over by the machine. Most decide to play along in order to survive, and their good intentions fall by the wayside.

Absolutely. My professor of Torts in Law School, Spiro Agnew was an excellent example of just that.

The congress members elected from my state and district are my representatives under the constitution as you state in the original post. Whether they always act as I would have them is a characteristic of our constitutional republic as a form of government. When they don't then it is up to me to convince enough of my fellow citizens to vote for someone we think will act as we want them to and thereby replace those who represent us but don't speak with our voice. That is also is a characteristic of our constitutional republic.

You are correct. And Term Limits would greatly help you in that effort. Sadly, California has an abundance of nutters, sufficient to send another to Congress even if we limited each to one term of one day
