The MEDVAMC is not committed to hiring veterans as evidenced by being less that 7% under their 33% veteran hiring goal for the past several years. The MEDVAMC is also showing that they are not committed to hiring professional Registered Nurses and Physician Assistant who are veterans as evidenced by a zero increase in the 8% of Nurses who are veterans that are employed at the facility in the past 5 years and the declining Physician Assistants who are veterans.

Lots of people in Civil Service with no Military Time do not think we should get Vet Preference.... because they did not serve! I ran into it a lot.... IF I said that on FB, I would be slammed, on RP most people nod their head because we all served.

I've heard this before also. Whom better to serve veterans than other veterans? Employers and coworkers sometimes automatically negatively stereotype veterans solely based on our military service.

The VA Medical System has been screwed up since the Vietnam War Days, Plenty of Great "Horror Stories" Books and Movies Made about it over the Years. Nothing Changes.

A Veterans Recruiter stated with my education, certifications, and qualifications I should have no issue obtaining employment at the facility. After three years with no luck I started doing FOIA requests and learned that many of the jobs that I applied for were given to nonveterans with less education and experience. I appealed with MPSB and was basically told that as long as the nurse hired meets 'minimum qualifications' the Nurse Hiring managers can select whomever they want. Experience and Veteran Status doesn't matter.

I did several great years as a consultant for the VA. My data warehouse architecture was copied by other contractors (they used FOIA to get my work).
