It might be time for Bit-coin to go, as a libertarian experiment it failed. As a tool for organized crime it succeeded very well though.

How about we punish the crap out of and make examples of people who steal classified information, release it to the public, all in the name of trying to make the NSA more "transparent"?
The fact there are folks who are supposed to be trusted people with high level clearances releaing this information, is what concerns me most.

Not my area of expertise but you would think that an attack of this size would be quickly tracked down and squashed. The nations that are attacked have the best cyber capability on the planet.

As someone who can consider this within my area of interest, the The TOR (Dark Web ) system they are hiding behind was developed by some of the best Programers in US military the US Naval Research Lab (NRL) , it was intended to be uncrackable to protect people from corrupt and authoritarian movements (Think China) who monitor everything. Since > it is used for that purpose today as well as for nefarious purposes. Since then multiple layers of adition obscuration have been added on to the system and the mutiple jurisdictions involved and the privacy laws of those jurisdictions make getting though the layers much like trying to untangle a w ball of steel wool into straight wires, after that ball has been randomly superglue/ the fact that in some nations government official are probably taking a cut and is some other they are probably laughing their asses of.
Tracing Bit-coin transfers can be just about as hard, with the only solution I can see is making using bit-coins for any purpose unlawful . That would work only in the US and only for those not connected to a VPN.
