The assault charge is there. It will be a shame if they list a slur as a charge. I do not support racial slurs, but the freedom of speech allows this to happen in our world. We should remain free, but publicly condemn actions like his!

The slur was not why he was arrested, if it was I would regrettable have to support the idiot. Thankfully I do not.

He grabbed her arm. That is misdomeanor assault. The other article where a guy punched another guy in the face more rises to the level of felony assault. They charged his as a felony because they didn't like what he said. Should he be charged, yes but as a misdomeanor because that is the level of his crime. What he said that was offenive , although vile, should have no bearing on how he is charged. Charge based on actions not bad thoughts.

MSgt (Join to see) Intent matters and his intent turned it into a felony.

You are not allowed to grab someone like that. That was why he was charged. You ARE allowed to be as nasty as you want to be like that and I am OK with that because that is considered freedom of speech. Now the restaurant has a right to ask his dumb ass to leave their place of business and I am fine with that too. If he doesn't leave have him arrested for tresspassing. The main thing is when we charge people or increase charges for people who say things we don't like what happens when we happen to say something that someone else doesn't like. Chip, you like to express your dislike for Trump on here. What would you think if next thing you know you were getting a visit from the secret service and looking at charges for your speech. This is a slippery slope indeed. Part of freedom of speech is protecting people who say things that offend you. So, about the article, charge him with misdomeanor assault, ban him from the restaurant. Otherwise, they might charge him but will waste taxpayer money when he walks at trial, which he should because of over charging.

Charge him with felony assault and battery since he actual laid hand on her, and it was accompanied with what could reasonably be called a death threat. I do not support thee idea that "hate speech' should be a crime or hate crime laws in general, But Making treats accompanied by unprovoked violence at all should get the whole law library dropped on you not just the book.

I do not care why the threat was made or whether it was cause by bigotry or not.
