One thing that I see is instead of having conversations about how things should be, we constantly see one side bashing the other if they don't see eye to eye. No one is going to respond well to the bashing, so there will be more bashing. I think someone needs to be the bigger person, and instead of bashing, find ways to work together.

Most know that I lean center left. When I scroll through RP, and see members bashing the left side (not the leaders, but the people), it makes me not want to reason or associate with the right side at all. At this point, it's not even a hurt feelings type of thing. It's more of, if you are constantly bashing me, why should I work with you?

Same goes for the leftists that bash the right.

And I'm glad you ended as you did. Yes, that is precisely what I'm talking about, all the "bashing". Sadly, when I disagree with someone, they take it as "bashing" and become angry. That's when I stop and they strut in triumph claiming that they "defeated" me. Thus, I've fallen in the habit of leaving a parting not for those who "have the misfortune of stumbling upon this conversation" informing them that I am abandoning it and why I am. This practice only seems to infuriate those who oppose me even more. Gee, I wonder why?

I'm in the same boat as far as political leanings. For me, I just don't engage with mental midgets!

You are professional so I'm not referring to you. And yes, I do see "disagree" with bashing coming from both fields as well. I'm pretty sure you can see offenders on both sides when scrolling through the site.

Stop finger pointing and posting fake news. Name calling has escalated to new heights. People's tendency to believe everything they see or read or hear. We can now seemingly prove any argument for or against with sources. The whole my source is better than yours is ridiculous.

That would seem to be a good idea but "sources" of news are now sources of propaganda. During the Cold War we laughed at Pravda (Russian: Truth) as the propaganda organ of the Soviet Union. Today's US media are no better. So, when we join the debate what are we to use as the "source" of our information? How are we to debate without information? What is "truth"?

Today truth is what you believe. Only my truth is true. The propagandist has won the Battle. But no one is winning in the end.

I tried to find the Paul Harvey story on our past national crisis and how this is not the first time we have had these differences and he listed many of the subjects you note.

I believe that I covered this in my opening comment. No, this isn't the first time that we've been racked by disagreement. Hell, I can't think of anytime when a clear majority of We the People agreed on anything save the "idea of America". We loved our liberties and freely exercised them in disagreeing. However, we are now divided over the right to disagree. I can't find an example of that in any other American era. There are "Americans" today who are even questioning the very idea of liberty. They seem truly offended by it.
