I am not sure we are holy enough to conduct a holy war.

There was about 500 years of crusades... how many of the warriors were 'holy'... sometimes good people do the right thing for the wrong reasons.... but often bad people do it for the right one...

I would argue that 900 years ago (first Crusade) Christendom was far more aligned around the faith than most Americans are today. Even though the protestant reformation was 400+ years away still.

Certainly there were misinterpretations as many/most did not have access to the Bible then but most fought for God and King/Queen.

My only real objection is his call for a "Christian holy war." I'm not real keen on religious wars. I am very keen on exterminating the rabid animals that Islamic radicals are. I think that is the job of all people that aren't Islamic radicals ... not just "Christians." It is a bit like eradicating a pandemic ... not just the job of doctors. Everyone has to cooperate and pull together. Hanging a religious label on the effort to eliminate Islamic radicals is counterproductive as it alienates some while excluding others.

Why is it stupid? He didn't say that we should kill all Muslims, he said that we need to kill all radical Islamists. What's wrong with that?

It's stupid for many reasons.

1.) Many religious and non-religious folks take issue with Christian terrorist, Islamic terrorist, Jewish terrorist, etc. Sort of stating the obvious there.

2.) There are a lot of stupid people that will take what he said to extreme measures right here in our homeland. They wait for moments like these to feel validated.

3.) Our country is divided enough and this does nothing but "stoke the coals" so to speak.

4.) I will not engage in any sort of Holy war for this country. The religious zealots are welcome to kill each other, I don't want any part of it. I swore to support and defend the constitution and not the Bible, Quran, Torah, Bhagavad Gita, etc. I will fight for my country and not just Christians.
