Maybe this belongs in another thread, but also on here so; here goes:
We raise quarter horses and use what are called "Recipient Mares", or Recip for short. A Veterinarian puts a fertilized embryo (either one that is flushed from another mare after fertilization or a 'test tube' embryo) into the recip mare. The Vet has literally HUNDREDS of mares on his place to have the correct timing for implanting an embryo. All of these mares have collars with numbers on them to facilitate tracking, etc. instead of having thousands of names. Picture that on site there are about 800 unbred mares, that means there are another 1600 out at various barns since some are carrying embryos and some have already foaled and are with the new horse.
Anyway, we tend to name the mares when they are on our ranch. Last batch we had one called Cinnamon (obvious color name), another called Happy! because of her general nature. The last one to arrive had been here over a month when her "name" came to me. Obvious now, but one day I said she STILL doesn't have a name. Oh wait, OF COURSE! She's "America" lol

One of my all time favorites LTC Stephen F.. I first heard that song shortly after I had returned from Vietnam and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Another of my favorites that came out about the same time and I also heard at Fort Hood was Youre So Vain by Carly Simon.

SPC Lyle Montgomery
SFC William Farrell, I ended up at Ft. Hood after returning from Nam in 71. Great fishing at Stillhouse and Belton lakes. I also liked all of Carly Simons songs. At that time I liked CCR and "Who'll Stop The Rain" one of my all time favorites.
