Thanks for sharing your thoughts SCPO Morris Ramsey. Since I never wore a pea coat I don't have a dog in this specific hunt. From a more general standpoint I think it is important not to just casually discard tradition and the accoutrements of said traditions.
Do you have any thoughts on this issue? PO1 William "Chip" Nagel PO1 John Crafton PO1 John Miller SGT Robert George SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL

LTC Stephen F. That Will Go Over Like a Lead Balloon. I was part of the Group that Fought for the Return of our Traditional Uniform from the Zumwalt Era Good Humor Man Uniform. Now Having said that If You Have One Produced Prior to 1984 You Should Probably Put It in a Plastic Bag and take it to the Nearest Hazmat Dump. Earlier Wool Versions were soaked in some Very Bad Chemicals (Carcinogenic).

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - George Orwell would be proud that the government soaked uniforms in some Very Bad Chemicals in 1984 :-)

I love my peacoat, but I rarely wore it. If the Navy (the end user) says that they need something newer and better, I am going to listen to the end user. Congress trying to circumvent what the service wants/needs to help their constituents is wrong. Unless Congress is going to carry a seabag and deploy, do what is best for the Navy.
