They were not Grooming for College they were grooming to work in the Machinery Manufacturing Equipment. I Can Appreciate this Ted Talk. I Found My Own World, Electronic Mischief Maker, Thank God the Navy and the NSA had Bigger Dreams for Me.

Lowering the cost of college, promoting trade jobs and getting them educated also.

giving them better teachers would be a nice start. The problem with poverty is that you only have poor examples at your disposal I grew up in a town full of people who were destined for jail, the USMC saved my future and most likely my life. Had I grown up around better examples, I might have taken a much more direct route to college and then financial success. You cant change the parents, but higher teacher standards would sure help a lot.
