If people would actually read up, learn, and understand more about Gen Lee, I would imagine they would not be so willing to take up such a stance against him. Too many people who both idolize him and hold him in contempt know very little about him and his history/legacy.

He was a Traitor, he knew it, that's why his men had to continue to die while he negotiated amnesty for himself and his officers. Many of them had participated in the Courts Martial of the San Patricio traitors in the Mexican War.

If they actually wanted to respect Lee, they wouldn't have these monuments up to begin with. That's because it isn't about Lee or actually honoring him.
It's all about the Cult of the Last Cause, and the culture that is desperate to rewrite history about what the Confederacy was and what they fought for. This 'culture' that the supremacists are trying to preserve is vile and there is nothing of it that is worth protecting.

I'll agree with others, and further state that the few direct quotes of Lee in this article are taken out of context. I'm not saying that I think Lee was in favor of monuments and such, I'm just saying that I don't think he was against them either as this article suggest.
