I think the problem with the author’s argument, at least in this case, is that all the people around him didn’t recognize that anything was amiss in the first place so saw no special need to make them less lonely.
Besides, I’m a bit of an introvert. The last thing I need or want is a bunch of people trying to engage with me because they think I may be lonely. Bleah...

Yeah I'm much the same to on my off time most of time I like solitude especially after the Navy a value my own space where I just don't want bothered by anyone so I trouble no one but I also expect not to be troubled.
