Ya sure, defeated and pushed back. Not only can't Russia lie well, they apparently haven't learned anything about conducting a war in two years.

The Russians are so inept they are relegated to using WWI tactics - long and wide linear formations. The Germans conducted a massive AAR of WWI and developed the doctrine known as Blitzkrieg before the onset of WWII. The doctrine entailed using mechanized forces and aviation to support maneuver in order to attack enemy forces, thereby breaking the gridlock of WWI tactics. If the Ukrainians had more aviation like attack helicopters, fighters, bombers, and CAS, it would have a chance to win the war.
This is how the US would fight Russia if it was stupid and crossed a red line like attacking a NATO country. The Russians know this, and I assume they are rational enough not to test US military power. The US military will employ air and ground assets that would destroy the Russian army in Ukraine quite easily.

The problem in the Russia-Ukraine War is that Russia cannot afford to lose.
Unlike the US who happily wins battles then throws in the towel to lose wars, Russia is absolutely dependent on their facade as a "Super Power" -- they simply cannot back down.
Honestly Ukraine cannot defeat Russia, the best Ukraine could hope for is a stalemate.
In a sensible world, Russia and Ukraine would reach a settlement, probably status quo ante. But this conflict is not between two sensible nations.
