I’ve finally realized that you can’t apply logic to a lot of humans, especially those that are so-called legislators.

The purpose of government has become to take care of themselves and enough of the right people to ensure they stay in government, and has little to do with the common good of the public. Just the man in the mirror and the 1% that keep them in office. The irony in all this grandstanding is that most of these Members would not stand up to the scrutiny of the types of investigations they "demand" on political foes or anyone that jeopardizes their job security. Even a financial audit would likely disclose violations of all sorts i.e. offshore tax evasion, illegal campaign or "influence" contributions, or insider trading. During the confirmation hearings for both Mnuchin and Price, violations were alluded to and in the case of Price confirmed, but they were still confirmed and no charges were filed. It's a rite of passage and almost gentleman's agreement that once sworn in they look the other way regarding other members, in order to receive the same immunity. If malfeasance is uncovered by the media other Members look the other way and act as if they had no idea. Ethics have become a rare trait, and increasingly so in the last 20-30 years. Yet they are still reelected. Hypocrisy at its finest.

It is like the Wizard of Oz, "Don't pay attention to the jackass in the White House."
It is a diversion.
