Speaking as a nuclear sub sailor, "the football," "codes," etc, are all part 1 of many, many parts. The president (or disgruntled security advisor)(quick - name the movie...) can't just get out of bed, go into a closet, open a box and send megatons worth of hotness into space. *IF* it was truly that easy, we'd have had a live accident or two by now.
While Trump's tweetaholic ramblings may or may not be dangerous, we the nation aren't in danger of him just randomly launching stuff. Its a nice pipe dream, but it really isn't that simple. Now...its possible that things have changed since I last served. But... I doubt it...

As a side bar, keep in mind also that MAD involves numbers. While these numbers are intended to scare an enemy, they are actually redundancy. In other words, out of 24 missiles on a sub, how many may fail? So just launching "one nuke" is not really smart/prudent. Along those lines also, most nuke missiles that the POTUS can launch are sub missiles (18 warheads each) or USAF birds (multiple warheads as well). So if the president was to launch "one" Navy Trident, "18" cities are going to glow.
