I personally think this is a great program. I wish the U.S. had a mandatory program similar to this that one went through between high school and college or entering the workforce. I truly believe it would do our youth and our country a world of good.

I enlisted in 1976, a little more than a month after turning 17(started first grade at 5). I had 3 years of JROTC under my belt that enabled me to start as an E-3. I was not abused by my DI's in BCT at Ft. Knox or AIT in Ft. Benning. I was pushed and forced to work harder than I thought I could do and found out that I could do more than I thought. I could not vote at that time, but I could have a beer on post only until I turned 18 (legal for everything back then). Through out my military career with just a few exceptions, I was blessed to have NCO's that were looking out for my best interest. When I became an NCO I did my best to pay that forward to my troops. I consider myself as an honorable man today and my training from hard but other honorable men made that possible. I applaud the UK for this program.
