Nah, they all deployed.

They would show up in country on the evening of the 30th, RON till the morning of the 1st, then leave.

They pulled two months combat pay, then repeated this little trick until they rated the ribbon for six months of service (as documented by the combat pay they drew).

Saw it happen way too often.

Col Jim Harmon You are spot on sir! If they were enlisted, they would also re-enlist while there in order to get the bonus tax free!

Way too many camp followers were allowed to fluff up their professional resume this way.

I often wondered why I kept seeing the same small group of faces again and again over the deployments actually fighting the war. Those that understood the calling and profession of the military went to war, and went without reservation. The rest just went through the motions.

I had more respect for the Fobbits and the Bunker Bunnies. At least they showed up to 'suck dust', eat crappy chow, and dodge 122mm rockets for the duration.

The camp followers should be held accountable. I hope that is where General Mattis is headed with this move.

Had the pleasure of taking a Major on her first trip outside the wire during her FIRST deployment after about 6-7 years of service... She was so afraid we told her not to load her rifle because the thought of holding a loaded weapon was making her even more scared.

Sgt Wayne Wood - Well to be fair she wasn't combat arms she was some kind of public relations type or something along those lines. I just couldn't believe a soldier was so afraid of a rifle.
