What happens if one of these governments falls and turns out to have built a nuclear arsenal? With regard to that concern, Iranian work on ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons is a strong motivator for the government of Saudi Arabia to develop an arsenal of their own. Then there is Egypt. Turkey would seem to be quite capable of starting up their own program, as well. Pakistan has long had a nuclear arsenal, and according to the newspapers, the Pakistani government refused US offers of assistance with setting up a permission action links implementation to protect their nukes against unauthorized use.

So, it's a random Tuesday morning and a nuclear-armed Middle Eastern government has fallen to an Islamist-led insurgency. What does the US President do?

Honestly? At this point, I'm all for adopting Pakistan's policy: sit back & let the cards fall where they may, and deal w/ it then. Only act when they directly threaten us, not indirectly.
But, you know, treaties and other such sh*t...
