I did not see that as a proposal to damage the 1st Amendment. On the contrary, I saw a suggestion for a more involved population through modern technology. The idea of people being able to propose a law, the legislatures act on it, then it is submitted back to the people for a final vote is a good one I think.

No, don't spend it. It let me read without a subscription. I don't know what's with it.
Here's the gist of it: "We sophisticated, holier-than-thou anointed people at the Washington Post are representative of the enlightened class that should decide what information you child-like yokels are given and allowed to discuss because, honestly, we know that none of you out there in fly-over country are competent to make intelligent voting decisions."

My reaction: I would pay to watch a reality-TV series in which WaPo writers attempt to perform simple, everyday tasks like changing their oil or replacing a household air conditioning filter, diagnosing a problem with the kitchen garbage disposal, etc.
