Once you redefine the term, you set the table for gun control regulation that encompasses everything, but the most basic firearm. Kind of how the left has hijacked the term immigration for all that come to the USA, regardless of legality.

I use a Funk and Wagnall dictionary from 1969 as my standard tool. It is before word hijacking came along and before words were redefined for political purposes. I suggest you go to an older book store and look for one from as early as you reasonably can.
This is another one of the issues with the on line culture. On line dictionaries and other books can be changed and you will never know it. There was a cost involved in changing dictionaries and other reference books a generation ago. The cost to go to print and distribute the new books was real and had to be considered. Now you have on line editors (who knows their level of skill or education) that can change things with no notice or warning.

I have my fathers dictonary from before WWII it is a Webster but the words in it mean something entirely different than they teach today.
