Interesting that the propaganda a website (black and blond media) quotes Wikipedia... Biography.com gives us a much better explanation for why Bayard Rustin was selected.

SN (Join to see) - I suspect being gay, black, and a civil rights activist in the 1950's had to be rough... the fact that he continuously promote non-violent tactics during that time is impressive.

SSG (Join to see) - Fine but the point being made was that the "community" was asked for input and was blown off. The woman who was chosen to be named for another school also went through hardships, came back to that same community, was an educator and was to honored (again). All this was overlooked because the school board feared activists who would publicly shame them if they didn't get their way.
If that makes us "garbage" for pointing that out, so be it.

SN (Join to see) - There was a naming committee pushing for the school to be named after Lillian Brown, and a lot of parents pushing for the school to be named after Rustin. It appears the school board sided with the parents over the naming committee. It looks like the school board felt the parents represented the community better than their committee and sided with them.
