Michigan teen misses bus, gets shot at after asking for directions

The NRA itself in this instance has nothing to do with it, YET will have everything to do with it. The second a gun control measure is introduced, they will make statements contrary to what is being proposed and even take the initiator of said action to court. Being a owner of a weapon gives you no additional credibility anymore than 99% of this site who are multiple weapon owners to include myself. I cannot stand the NRA, but they have nothing to do with this yet.

‘A good guy with a gun’ is a truth being used as a slogan. Was it last year or the year before where the ‘good guy with a gun’ was a woman shooting at a SUV fleeing the scene of a Home Depot with stolen items. No one in the SUV or the vehicle itself was a threat to the woman, yet she opened fire. I’m using that as an isolated case (although there are many more), blind belief in that isn’t always a good thing. Many folks buy weapons who beyond a very basic class have no clue how to properly employ the weapon they have. That takes away the ‘good guy with a gun’ and makes that person a possible liability. The true ‘good guy with the gun’ has training and knowledge to actually be effective with it, and not buy the biggest hand cannon just because he can and it looks cool. I have a few weapons and if I am not able to effectively use it, it sits until I am. That includes my hand cannons that I already know how to use, but make no sense to carry. With additional training on my various platforms, I can be a good guy with a gun. Until I’m satisfied with myself and the platform, im just another weapon owner.

And who was the good guy with a gun? I don’t see one here all I see is someone acting irresponsibly in this s case, taking a pot shot at someone who rings your doorbell for directions is just as idiotic as blaming the NRA for the incident.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff Thanks for the input. You have your definition you’re going with, but I included LEOs in my statement. There is an infinite variety of details in individual incidents, but the constant is a target rich environment and the minimal chance of meeting armed opposition. (No one tries a mass shooting at a cop bar.) In ANY situation you cite where the gun is used irresponsibly, the person doing it is no longer a potential good guy, but becomes a criminal themselves. Implicit in the “good guy” idea is legal and responsible use of firearms, to include use by LEOs.
You make your point and I agree with you, but we are arguing two related but different points. And none of it negates the 2nd Amendment. Have a good one.

He shouldn’t, and I hope the DA and Sheriff stuck to their principles and hammer him good. I think she should also, but she didn’t fire anything, and there is no law against being stupid. Only being caught doing something stupid while being stupid.

SSG Warren Swan - He wont get away with it,but he'll receive light punishment. Keep in mind that he only received a misdemeanor for shooting at a car, the complexion for the protection

SSgt Ray Stone first offenses and second offenses are treated much differently in our justice system.
