It would appear that the police are retaliating for this student's post about the failings of the police. If this is true, it will be interesting to watch it unfold.

I have to wonder if some police don't think they have, and should have, "the only guns in town". In spite of the fact that the courts have repeatedly ruled that they have no responsibility whatsoever for the safety of any "ordinary citizen". The individual citizen's safety is his own responsibility.

You shouldn’t have to wonder when it is the case in many jurisdictions especially in blue states

After he was told that he was not in trouble, he should have just walked out. If he did nothing wrong and is not in any kind of trouble, there was no reason for these safety officers to interrogate him. the only question that was mentioned that I would consider with cause were "who was with you?" everything else was moot and just intimidation.

LCpl Shane Couch - Could you go further on clarification of your statement of "The only question that was mentioned that I would consider with cause were "who was with you?""
I may have misinterpreted what you may have meant by the comment.

SSG Robert Webster - I typed it incorrectly. When they asked him who he was with while shooting the rifle. I didn't see where he stated his father was with him, but I know that in Texas, a minor can not fire a weapon without a legal guardian present. But and legal guardian he named should have been enough. Again, he did nothing wrong.

If this really happened, then I smell a law suit in the making.

A bit more opinion on this:

It's easy now to postulate what I would have said and done in this kid's place...but I've the advantage of decades more experience in dealing with power-wielding *sshats now.

The fact of the matter is, I would have been scared out of my wits at the age of 17 or so to be subjected to this kind of treatment. And humiliated. This was a SERIOUS breach of legal, moral, and social etiquette and, if true, should absolutely NOT be sanctioned in any way, most especially by the kid's parents.

I would be livid if this happened to my kids, and I wouldn't stand for it. I did not raise my children to be *sshats themselves, and I do NOT accept other people treating them in such a manner, and I don't care WHO it is.

Each of my kids would likely have responded differently...but it would have been highly amusing to have been a fly on the wall if this had been my middle daughter (currently set to graduate high school in a very few short weeks). She's sharp witted and has absolutely NO qualms about telling people like this exactly what she thinks of them.

I rather think an attorney would be all over how this was handled, if it were one of my kids. To the point of comfortably settling all my financial worries with respect to sending my kids to college.
