SSG Warren Swan My first visit to the Memorial was in 1965 as an 18 year old seaman. It was a moving event for a southern country boy. The last time was in 2013. It was just as moving the last time as it was the first.

My first and only was in 2004 while TDY there. Don't know why the rest of my team didn't go see her, but I'm glad I did. The one thing that hit me was the tour guide was a Pearl Harbor vet himself, and he said "When the last man is buried here, she will stop bleeding". I knew "bleeding" was talk for the fuel oil that comes to the surface and dissipates. So when the last man finally goes home, what then? The AZ still is a living and breathing ship with the coral that lives on and off her.
