When a president is willing to pardon himself to avoid possible criminal charges do we take those whom he pardoned seriously?

Of course, that was in response to a hypothetical brought up by the New York Times, but you knew that, right? President Trump won't have to pardon himself because he did nothing wrong except be elected which must really piss you off.
