1SG Javier "Elvis" Martinez - zero. I can think of zero Afghan soldiers that I would want a reunion with.
It’s like they have to almost willfully try to not be good at soldiering.

It’s just disheartening to think that after these...decades....if we just hypothetically pulled our forces out tomorrow, the country would probably be in full blown civil war by September.

And we are still there and shipping pallets of $100 bills there to finance our efforts? Winner / winner, every TDY to Las Vegas should include a lesson in percentages! /. @SGT Anonymous

CSM Charles Hayden - chuck, Ive grown far more cynical. There is too much money to be lost by ceasing hostilities. We’re still there nearly 20 years later because we want to be. So many people make so much money. History has shown that war is good for business. And as much as I hate to admit it, casualty levels have gotten to an acceptable level so that the public will continue to turn their heads to the status quo.

I really think that in another 20 years from now, Afghanistan will be just another duty station, similar to Korea. (I understand the situation isn’t nearly an exact 1:1 comparison). For as much lip service as the three administrations have given to lowering troop levels, you never hear them talk about lowering private contractor levels. Our presence in Afghanistan is still robust. Our government has established a hard earned foothold. They’re not going to simply give it up any time soon.

I like it when the Afghan Military leads and is successful.

Those two words "Afghan Military" and "Successful" should never be used in the same sentence.
