I wonder how this will impact the US military, as it worked in tandem with the Filipino military in counterinsurgency. The Filipino President has mentioned China is a friend despite artificial islands created around his country. Will he flip flop?

Most of the insurgency in the RoP has been in Mindanao and the Moslem southern Philippines since forever. Don’t forget, the venerable M1911 was adopted to kill Moros.

Insurgencies in the northern Philippines have always been Maoist/Communist since forever. Duerte cozying up to China always left me scratching my head. Ultimately, i came to the conclusion he was playing China vs the US until China TOOK the Spratleys (?) ... at least the US paid rent for Subic/Cubi Pt & Clark AFB (until Mt Pinatubo evicted us from the latter)

Sgt Wayne Wood - I think he also is playing both sides in this dangerous game. Our bases in the Philippines was based on counterinsurgency, not the bases used for strategic defense of the Pacific.
