It can’t be both colonial AND puritanical can it? I mean, puritans were colonial subjects who wanted freedom of religion. Ultimately, they and every other sort of colonial subject in America threw off their oppressors who ruled their colonial existence. You are mixing your animosity for a particular belief and practice with your animosity for laws imposed by a colonial government. They are very different things.
