What saved it was sheer Numbers. It was tough and rugged like you said. Just the Tiger could take it out with only a scuffle or 2 . It's when the T-34 outflanked the German Tank, the Soviet model could take it out from behind, where the german armor was thinner. German tanks were just as rugged, but not nimble in a melee' Kursk set this difference as well as T-34 numerical superiority as the German Tank's weaknesses.

Since I'm complaining about movie realism - In Saving Private Ryan the soldiers cannot shut the f. up. Yap yap yap in the field. I had to read Rommel's book (Infanterie Greife An) mentioned in "Patton" when I was in OCS. The short version is keep quiet and listen for the Italians talking and look for them smoking.

Interesting read. Sturdy looking. More low to the ground and "aerodynamic" than many.
"The Panthers, dogged by design and production problems, did not arrive by rail until early July, providing little if any time for those tanker crews to be properly briefed." "sub-par subcontractors, including several French firms."
The French Resistance?

The reason the T-34 sat so low was that the Soviets bought the U.S. Christie suspension system when our army passed on it. As for the French, BTFOOM!
