CPT Jack Durish I have long been a fan of ancient British military history. It never ceases to amaze me how much bravery it would have taken to rush together and "hack" each other to pieces. When our media starts howling about the "horrors" of war, I think they should consider what a true horror is. After a battle, you were likely the lucky of the wounded if they walked by and thrust you through with a sword or pear to put you out of your agony. I do not know how many modern warriors would be up to this type of combat!

How about more modern wars in which they employed tactics much like the battle of Hastings in the face of guns and artillery? I too have wondered at the bravery/foolishness of men marching shoulder to shoulder into a maelstrom of withering fire

I enjoy learning what conditions existed for the fate of the armies to be determined.
