So in a non-confrontation situation a SU-35 got close enough to use it's IR optics to track a F-22. In a confrontation situation the SU-35 pilot if lucky would have been dangling from his parachute wondering what just happened.

Thing is, reading the article, it seems like there isn't a lot that can be done about this particular issue.

It wasn't that the Russians are increasing their capabilities that made the F-22 visible on their EM and IR systems, it's because they were in close proximity. Any current airframe, and even the next few generations of airframe, are going to be visible in the IR spectrum while moving. There's no current technological capabilities anyone has that eliminate the heat caused by friction of an airplane moving through the air.

It's not a problem, it's just reality.

MAJ Bryan Zeski Those are the questions raised in the article, is the picture indeed genuine (which isn't sure) and was it at close range or long range? Right now we don't know the answers to either of those questions. If the image is fake or at close range, then it is not an issue. If it is genuine and at long range then it is a problem.
