The evolution has been so fantastic, I was able to see and work on version one when it was called the XM-1 with the bolt together turret, dragster style seat but was later changed because it kept rocking the driver to sleep and was ungoverned until it was witnessed that the teams were drag racing in the motor pool and laying rubber. I was with the 27th Maint. BN. Ft Hood (1980) and then saw the changes during Desert Storm and then again at Ft. Riley (2013). The M-1 was an awesome tracked vehicle from day one and is in no comparison to the M-60 series track vehicle. As a Fire Control Instrument Repairman I know the vehicle is nothing without the well trained crew. So what makes this a lethal tank for 40 years?. It's the crew who is trained on how to use their tools for a first round hit...every time and the Officers who know how to lead from the front.
