On December 3, 1979, terrorists attacked unarmed sailors en route to a day watch at Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Sabana Seca.
CTO1 John Ball, the Communications Supervisor and driver the Navy bus and RM3 Emil White seated directly behind him were killed by gunfire when the bus was attacked by terrorists. Several other sailors on board the bus were injured.

Just came off "baby leave" that day. PO Ball was my neighbor. I was on the next bus. Because I was an E5, I was then required to be a driver for the bus (wasn't allowed to ride it as I lived in housing but required to drive the bus). Knew all the people on the bus.

I have met some survivors of that attack. It did not receive the media coverage that it deserved because of the Iran Hostage Crisis....
