Clear and concise, when engaging your troops. Lead from the front. Don’t look confused in front of them. And if you have to bitch about stuff, do it around your peers, not your unit. Troops see and hear everything!!! Be strong, act strong and they will see that and follow your lead. Good luck

Marc Gianotti is the BEST CSM I had ever served under in the entire Army, and that includes the SMAs. He has an amazing ability to break down concepts simply so it can be translated to young troops. The Army did not put him in the right places to where he could really influence people.

I believe it all starts at culture. A culture of respect, dignity, trust, and openness. It is imperative because the NCOs often supervised and planned for execution of a task or mission. That gives the NCOs the authority and initiative to do what is expected of them. I was also adamant about maximizing the preperation time and issuing simple orders.
