"Preliminary Navy documents show uniformed staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center falling by 534 personnel, with, for example, 82 taken from director of clinical support, including 28 of 39 corpsmen, 5 of 12 radiological diagnosticians, 4 of 7 pharmacists, 8 of 19 pharmacy techs, and 9 of 45 medical lab technicians."
Has anyone bothered to look at wait times at the pharmacy?

LTC Kevin B. $3200 per year for Part B Medicare for my wife and I, another $1200 for our Dental/vision plan. Other costs not shown here, but I get your point an the anticipated free medical care after retiring from a military career.

LTC Kevin B. - What all of those are is example of the erosion of these services and at some point that needs to stop and start taking care of our people for a change like We used to. It seems that We pay more now for less service. I'm glad I don't have to rely completely on TRICARE but I have coverage through another retirement that is My primary. With less Medical people We of course continue to see Military heath care facilities reduce services or disappear completely.

You are correct also about the costs of the dental vision plus the Part B Medicare, those are expenses I have as well. Medicare didn't give Me more just added on extra costs when after retirement I don't have as much cash available as I did before.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - Unfortunately, our benefits keep getting chipped away, little by little. Every time our premiums, fees, co-pays, or deductibles go up, that the erosion of our benefits is basically a hidden tax placed directly on the military force. Since so many of our members are from (and live) all around the country, and since we represent a smaller and smaller segment of society, our influence declines and becomes more diffused. That means our political clout gets smaller and smaller. Unfortunate, but true.

LTC Kevin B. - Yes and every time We get a pay raise, its given with one hand and taken back with the other with such things as help care cost increases. Its getting pretty tiring !

I understand the need for training, but an overloaded workforce doesn’t help either.

The way I see this working is pushing more billets to reserves and guard and pulling those folks more for mobilizations while also expanding civilian outsourcing of services. I hope they don’t rely on expanding more contract positions because in my experience they aren’t cheaper, don’t provide the same level of care, and just ends up being a problem all the way around.
