I remember reading in the officer magazine in the late 1990s warning that China was The Reawakening dragon. 21 years later, we know it is true. Communist China is threatening Taiwan, Vietnam., Philippines or anybody that comes by their little Sandbar Island Mini corregidores. The Chinese people's Liberation Army Navy has the biggest Coast Guard in the world and their ships are designed to Ram other ships.

I have said for a long time, Russia is not our friend, China is not our friend. Having said that, as Lincoln observed, it is good to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. China's economy is staggering, they face a demographic crisis, and as you observed they have been very aggressive in the Naval sphere. I don't think they have the deep water experience to take on the US, YET, and do suffer from being relatively bottled up, but give them time.
