Good morning RP. Today's image is titled "AE Aurigae and the Flaming Star Nebula." AE Aurigae (the bright star visible just to the lower right of the image center) is so hot it glows blue, emitting light so energetic it knocks electrons away from surrounding gas. The Flaming Star nebula lies about 1,500 light years distant, spans about 5 light years, and is visible with a small telescope toward the constellation of the Charioteer (Auriga, between the constellations Gemini and Perseus).

Good morning Maj William W. 'Bill' Price and thank you for another phenomenal Picture of the Day!!! looking at this image full screen is mind bending! It is so large and certainly looks like this area of Space is on FIRE! Of course, it isn't, but it the colors are spectacular!! (Since my wife and I are traveling up the FL west coast today to visit friends, this is one of my shortest responses, but that said, I am certainly awe struck by this magnificence!)
