If selective service is there to provide for the defense of our nation in a crisis, then the focus should be just that, and not distracted by social or political issues. Those who are BEST at fighting should fight, BUT, it takes from 3-5 or more soldiers (generic term for soldier, sailor, Marine, airman/woman or Coastie) to support ONE combat arms soldier. For that reason, only those exemptions that currently apply as bars to military service should exist for Selective Service. Non-combat military occupational specialties can be filled mostly by draftees, and for those who qualify, combat arms would be appropriate, just like in today's military. Not everybody makes the varsity team, and not everybody is best suited for combat roles. Remember, the purpose of the military is to WIN an armed conflict, so we cannot afford to meddle with what works in favor of what feels good. Hooah!
