The problem with the Sherman was when introduced it was close to equal in 1942 but the Germans by 1943 had already built even better tanks and kept updating their tanks while we fought mostly with the same tank. Plus the infantry wanted one thing from a tank and the calvary wanted something different so we ended up with a design that did not actually accommodate either. Plus we had this notion that we would not fight tank on tank, but unfortunately that was not how the battles worked out.

Yeah, I'd seen many mentions of that histirically, the dangers of it, there were definite references to that aspect in the Patton film I do recall hearing, which Gen. Bradley helped with, I'd seen....

It seems that the big advantage was in sheer numbers even though the German Tiger tank was superior in both armor and firepower there weren't as many of them.
