Good morning RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "A Triangular Shadow of a Large Volcano." Several weeks ago we saw a similar picture from Mauna Kea in Hawai'i; this image is from Mount Teide (12,198 ft) in the Canary Islands. The Pico Viejo crater is in the foreground. Looking at a map tells me that the picture was taken at sunrise on January 21st or 22nd of this year (Pico Viejo is west of Tiede and is in full light, and the shadow extends to the west, and a total lunar eclipse had just occurred).
