The backlash to the proclamation was bipartisan.

"This is WRONG," Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted. "Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Confederate general & a delegate to the 1868 Democratic Convention. He was also a slave trader & the 1st Grand Wizard of the KKK."

Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee echoed Cruz on Twitter.
"We should not be honoring Nathan Bedford Forrest, the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and the perpetrator of the massacre at Fort Pillow," the Democratic congressman said on Twitter.

There is precisely zero reason to issue this proclamation. There was no public movement to have it. There was no law passed to create it.
One can only conclude that this Governor has some affinity for the deeds of a founding member of the KKK and a treasonous military officer. That alone is reason to find a new person to run the state.

I understand remembering history and commemorating historical figures, but this one is a complete head scratcher.
