You also have to look at how they are calculating said deficit. Example under Obama, if you use the time frame from when he took office to when he left office he added 9 trillion to the deficit, if you took the actual budgets enacted during his 8 years he added 6.8 trillion, if you only look at his policies that he enacted you are looking at 980 billion, it all depends on what you are looking at, plus congress controls the purse strings not anyone president.

MSgt Steve Sweeney you may be right but the point is the deficit didn't shrink under Obama in any relevant way due to an increased debt. I think if we reset the government to the original intent of the founders we will be better off and our debt could then be addressed. But that won't happen because as soon as someone's pet project is threatened we will see a parade of tragedies.

I realize that might take some unpacking, but in doing so I think you may find that not everyone will agree on what the "original intent" was. Remember, the founders never envisioned or desired a standing military.
