This article has left so much out about the actions of Jackson, the involvement of the Spanish and British, and the fact that part of his army facing off against the Cherokee included Creek warriors. This isn't to say Jackson wasn't racist, but there is a lot more context missing here. What happened in FL is not as simple as the article alludes to (plus it even briefly admits the fact that the Seminole owned slaves, then leaves it out there for another "examination").

BTW, my history teacher said he hated Indians and others and was perfectly happy to have them killed. I don't remember him calling him racist but he sure described Jackson that way

There is a lot of US history that we'd like to (excuse the pun) white wash away. That doesn't mean that we should and when we do it can lead us right back to those same places.
