Blame anyone, anything else, just don't blame the shooter. :(

SFC Pete Kain To be clear, acting on white supremacist ideology is a major cause of domestic terrorism on the US today.

SFC Pete Kain That person is wrong that all mass shootings stem from white supremacy. A lot of what we classify as a mass shooting is crime related. However, it is a major problem and a major contributor to domestic terrorism.

So the assertion now is the El Paso shooter is completely rational but a white supremacist. Is this an official clinical diagnosis or one that was made for political reasons? I have say a couple of items here. His Parents lived in a $785,000 house, in North Texas that amount of money buys a McMansion. He attended one of the most racially diverse and well funded high schools in Texas. Something is aloof about his Parents though and I suspect he was a latch-key kid from the price of the house plus their various decisions in dealing with him. I mean the guy bought the damn rifle with his Parents knowledge, how screwed up is that? In the house I grew up in I would have been told that if I bought a rifle like that I would have to move out of the house. So his Mother calls the Police an asks if it is OK legally if he buys the weapon and the Police say yes..........so she then lets it go? In the house I grew up in I would have been told there is no way I am going to continue to live there owning a rifle of that type and my Father had several rifles (again, parental judgement here). He is 21 years of age and going to a community college not known for any degrees specifically and he is attending for software development so perhaps he is in his Junior year of college. Again back to his Parents, they really do not seem to care he is going to a relatively shitty college just that he is going to college apparently (maybe they are happy at the low cost).

His Father is a mental therapist......I guess this is why the kid has to be rational white supremacist and not a mental case......... though I would still like to see a full mental evaluation done. The reason why is I am reading all these local stories about how he was bullied in High School and became a loner (again, his Mother taught at the same school and wasn't aware of any of this bullying?)......reporter goes on to say bullying happens at the school regularly and school officials don't care (really? his Mother is there did she care?). His Father takes him shooting out on the rifle range, so apparently the kid was experienced with rifles. The kid told the police he spent about 8 hours a day on the Internet and Social Media websites. Again, Parents not picking up on this (latch-key kid suspicion again rears it's head). So maybe I am being too hard on the Parents here but it just seems like they were both happy in their own lives at this point and didn't care all that much about the young man still living under their roof.

SPC Kevin Ford - So I am just curious what in your head the term "radicalization" means especially when the cops use the term. I'll give you a little hint to get you started. Your not going to find a serious mental health practioner that will tell you the radicalized person is in fine mental health or of great mental stability. I'm pretty sure your going to find the process of "radicalization" pushes someone over the edge. John Walker Lindh - "American Taliban" - BEING TREATED FOR MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. Two kids from same suburb as El Paso shooter (Plano, TX) that left to join the fight with ISIS in Syria, mental health practitioners agree showed definite signs of mental issues prior to withdrawl from high school including self isolation, falling grades, etc, etc. Unfortunately they are presummed dead and can't be looked at, they might have been saved but their Parents lied to the FBI and covered up what was going on (are they both mentally stable to do that to their kids? Don't know as they are in prison now and I don't think they consented to mental health tests). Terrorist guy that walked into a Muslim place in Wisconsin and shot it up - MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE. Where are you seeing that someone radicalized is mentally stable and a rational human being? What is your news source?

SPC Erich Guenther Let's get real. Anyone who is willing to blow themselves up arguably has some mental health issues. Having said that, we don't ask ourselves if the 9/11 attackers had mental issues and waffled around about the role of radicalization.

And no you're right that it isn't a mental health term, it is a social sciences term.

SPC Kevin Ford - ehhhh, too late, the term "radicalization" is already being associated with mental health according to the National Institutes of Health which does urge caution in doing so but goes over the symbiotic relationships.....

SPC Erich Guenther - It's not too uncommon for social science ideas to get referenced in the context of mental health.
