I remember this as a daily occurrence before morning work call formation. We’d take turns checking one another’s uniforms and burning off loose threads. It was never about hazing, but about helping one another look as squared away as possible.

WTF Over! We did this as part of prep for formation for as long as I can remember to include when the Commander and I gave each other the once over before formations and ; Gasp...... we had our uniforms on. Might be different with the mandarin collars the Marine uniform has but don't recall ever burning anyone nor being burnt.

Heavens, we did it all the time. In fact I usually had a lighter just for that purpose (I'm a non smoker). Seems like the BDUs were especially bad for loose threads.
